Brill 78371 Lawn Mower Review | Razorcut 38 15-Inch Reel Push Lawn Mower

If you have never considered using a reel lawn mower for your annual summer grass-cutting duties, you are making a serious mistake.

Most people that don’t like reel lawn mowers have not checked out a reel lawn mower in years; and like myself, are probably prejudiced by their experiences with the old reel lawn mowers of yesteryear.

These new reel lawn mowers have taken advantage of technology just like everything else, and you’d be surprised at how efficient these new reel mowers are when compared to their gas counterparts.

Under review is the Brill 78371 Razorcut 38 Reel Lawn Mower. This is a reel lawn mower with…

Brill 78371 Razorcut 38 15-Inch Reel Push Lawn Mower – Well Constructed and Easy to Use

Once assembled, we took the Brill 78371 Razorcut out for a test mow; and we were pleasantly surprised by the results.

First off, it was remarkably easy to push. At 17 pounds, it is one of the lightest reel mowers that we tested; and yet it did a remarkably good job cutting the grass.

Utilizing the latest in German engineering and technology, the Brill 78371 reel lawn mower is ideal for small and medium-sized yards.

The 5-blade reel on the Brill 78371 is precision sharpened down to a hundredth of a millimeter, and the hardened steel blades insure that they will keep an edge so you are not constantly sharpening the blades every other year.

And unlike other reel lawn mower designs, the Brill uses a contact-free cutting design; what this means is that the cutting blades never touch the cutting bar so there is very little blade wear.

And since there is no metal-on-metal contact, it is a remarkably quiet reel lawn mower that allows you to use it early in the morning or late at night without bothering the neighbors.

The handles are foldable and ergonomically designed, and all the metal components of the Brill 78371 Razorcut have a powder-coated finish that resists rust and chipping.

Another nice feature of its intelligent design is the extended spoiler in the back of the mower; which keeps the grass clippings off your feet and out of your shoes. And the top cover also protects your flowers, shrubs, and small trees from any damage from the whirring blades.

The grass height is fully adjustable and ranges from ½ inch high up to a full 2 inches so you can keep your lawn manicured all summer long.

Brill 78371 Razorcut 38 15-Inch Reel Push Lawn Mower – It Struggles At Times

Especially in grass longer than three or four inches. If you wait too long to cut your grass, get ready for a workout. It is real work (and several passes) if you try cutting grass that is too long with this mower.

And be careful of larger twigs and sticks. They will cause this Brill reel lawn mower to seize up, and getting the sticks that are wedged into the blades removed can be a real challenge.

Last, this is a 15-inch wide mower; so you will make more passes over the lawn with this reel mower than you will with a wider 18-inch or 20-inch mower.

Minor problems, I’ll admit. And overall, the Brill 78371 Razorcut 38 15-Inch Reel Push Lawn Mower is not a bad reel lawn mower.
