When it comes to cutting the grass, why mess around with a gas-powered mower anymore? They are noisy, expensive, difficult to maintain, and you wind up smelling of gas and exhaust fumes when you are finished.
Why not think about going “green” this summer and consider a push reel lawn mower? They are easy to use, almost maintenance-free, and with gas prices at record highs, it not only makes sense to think about a reel lawn mower; it actually saves you time and money.

Easun NaturCut Ideal 40 16-Inch 5-Blade Push Reel Lawn Mower
Once assembled, this is a sturdy, strong, and lightweight push reel lawn mower.
We decided to put it to the test to dispel the biggest complaint with reel lawn mowers… Getting bogged down while cutting long grass.
The Easun NaturCut Ideal 40 has an adjustable cutting height from ½ inch to a maximum of three inches. We tested this in the middle at 2 inches and attacked some 5-inch grass with this reel mower.
We had some mixed results. It was not very easy to push, and in the long grass, we found ourselves going back over certain areas that did not cut very well.
Once we adjusted the height to the maximum of three inches, we found that this actually cut the long grass pretty evenly; but with a height of 3 inches, we would wind up re-cutting this grass with a lower grass height setting later in the day.
As for ease of operation, this Easun is a smooth operating, easy-to-push reel lawn mower when cutting grass four inches tall or less.
The precision 5-blade flame tempered cutting reel is bearing mounted and rotates smoothly, and the expected blade life is eight to ten years without any sharpening needed.
The bearings are cushion mounted to resist impact and, as these are sealed bearings, there is absolutely no lubrication required at all.
It has a sixteen-inch cutting path, coupled with a segmented rear roller that makes this particularly efficient on smooth and level lawns.
And of course, it is remarkably quiet compared to any gas mower.
Since the cutting reel does not hit the cutting bar at all, it eliminates most of the noise associated with other reel lawn mowers. And this also insures that the blade’s life and sharpness will last longer than its counterparts as well.
This makes it ideal for early morning or late evening grass cutting without any neighbor complaints. And, of course, it is almost maintenance-free since there is no internal combustion engine to mess with.
Easun NaturCut Ideal 40 16-Inch 5-Blade Push Reel Lawn Mower – Still Needs A Little Work
While this is a pretty strong reel lawn mower, it does have its issues. We have already gone over the long grass complaint, and don’t even think about using this reel mower if the grass is wet… It is like walking through wet cement.
And even smaller sticks and twigs have a tendency to seize the 5-blade reel; so without going over your lawn with a fine tooth comb, you will be constantly stopping and clearing the reel of any obstructions.
And with a larger yard, you will be making quite a few passes with this mower as it only has a 16-inch mowing path. While ideal for smaller lawns, if you have a larger yard, you may want to find a mower with a wider pass.
But with that said, what’s not to like? No noise, no gasoline smell, great exercise, easy to use… The Easun NaturCut Ideal 40 16-Inch 5-Blade Push Reel Lawn Mower is a pretty nice reel mower.
Just insure that you keep your lawn maintained with this mower; if the grass gets too long, you will have a real workout on your hands.
At almost $200, the price is not bad; but for that price, I’d probably consider paying a little extra and looking at an easier-to-handle battery-operated reel push mower like the Gardena 4025-U.
